Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently splitting the internet down the middle and stoking the fires of controversy after stating his opinion that heaven is nothing more than a “fantasy”.
The Terminator star recently spoke candidly regarding his thoughts on what happens after we die, and his firm belief does not make for optimistic reading. In fact, his comments have evoked the ire of thousands after he claimed anyone who believes in the afterlife is a “f****** liar”.
Schwarzenegger’s no real stranger to controversy, but his words have drummed up a fresh debate regarding what happens to us when we leave this world. At 75, one might have thought Arnie would be invested in the idea that heaven awaits. But alas, the former Governor of California says there is “nothing” to come…
Sitting down with Interview Magazine, Schwarzenegger pulled no punches when asked “What’s in the future for us?”
“It reminds me of Howard Stern’s question to me,” Arnie replied. “‘Tell me, governor, what happens to us when we die?’
“I said, ‘Nothing. You’re six feet under. Anyone that tells you something else is a f****** liar’.”
The former seven-time Mr. Olympia winner went on to say that once we die, we will never see each other the same way as we do now.
Arnie continued: “I said, ‘We don’t know what happens with the soul and all this spiritual stuff that I’m not an expert in, but I know that the body as we see each other now, we will never see each other again like that.”
Naturally, his comments were enough to stir a lot of people into anger. Social media erupted with backlash, with Arnie admitting later in the interview that he believed the idea of heaven to be mere “fantasy.”
He said: “When people talk about, ‘I will see them again in heaven’, it sounds so good, but the reality is that we won’t see each other again after we’re gone.”
Schwarzenegger added: “That’s the sad part. I know people feel comfortable with death, but I don’t.”
As per reports, the bodybuilder-turned-actor-turned-politician is set to open up more in his upcoming Netflix documentary Arnold, which is released today, June 7.
